Gilding & Lacquer Work
Gilding and Japanese Lacquer Work
Gilding involves applying very thin sheets of gold (called gold leaf) or other metal leaf (like silver or copper) to a surface using an adhesive. Gilding has been used for centuries to add beauty and richness to objects, with examples found in ancient Egyptian tomb paintings and reliefs.
The Studio can paint custom gilded designs in any style directly to walls or onto canvas, paper, glass & architectural detailing. The studio also does raised gold leaf gilding in the European Japanned style as seen in The Wolseley private dining room.
All designs are painted by hand using both traditional and modern materials and techniques.
