Japanese Blossom Trees

Regents Park, London

This work, inspired by traditional Japanese bird-and-blossom folding screens (byōbu), was designed to hang behind the bed in a private client’s master bedroom. Painted onto antiqued silver-leafed panels, it draws on the Japanese aesthetic principles of kachōfuugetsu—an appreciation of the beauty in nature’s fleeting moments—and shibui, the balance of simplicity and subtle elegance. The use of silver leaf adds a reflective, ethereal quality, enhancing the sense of depth and delicacy in the composition.
